The Community Garden Day at Cumberland View Retirement Village on March 20, 2025 was an wonderful experience, and I feel so privileged to have been a part of it. Seeing our residents, visitors, and gardening enthusiasts come together to share their passion and build connections was truly heartwarming.
From the moment guests arrived, there was a buzz of excitement in the air. We were thrilled to welcome esteemed horticulturist and television personality Jane Edmanson OAM as our keynote speaker. Jane is such an icon in the gardening world, and her presence made the day even more special.
Jane Edmanson’s insights
Jane’s presentation was nothing short of inspiring. With decades of experience and a deep love for gardening, she captivated the audience as she spoke about the important role gardening plays in fostering community and connection. She also shared her expert advice on creating stunning long-lasting bulb displays, making the most of potted plants, and incorporating native foods into our gardens. It was incredible to watch both seasoned and beginner gardeners soak up her knowledge and enthusiasm.
Event highlights
The day was a huge success. Even this morning, our residents were still talking about it and sharing glowing feedback.
One of the standout features of the day was the Cannoli cart, which was such a hit that they completely ran out! Lucky we also had gorgeous catering from Cumberland View Aged Care kitchen to ensure no one went hungry! The entire afternoon was filled with laughter, lively conversation, and plenty of bubbles, making for an atmosphere that was both vibrant and welcoming. Jane’s presentation was an absolute highlight, with everyone thoroughly enjoying her insights and stories. The day was so enjoyable that we even had a few guests who lost track of time; we had to gently remind them it was 5pm and time to close up!
Competition winners
Another exciting moment was the announcement of our competition winners, Pam and Martin, who won a $2,000 voucher from Space & Time. This fantastic Melbourne-based company specialises in professional organising, decluttering, and downsizing services. We can’t wait to follow Pam and Martin’s journey as they embark on this transformative process; it’s always inspiring to see how decluttering can create fresh opportunities for a more stress-free and fulfilling life.
A Community to be proud of
Days like these remind me how lucky we are to be part of the Cumberland View community. Our village is more than just a place to live, it’s a place to connect, grow, and share in experiences that bring joy and fulfillment. Community Garden Day was a testament to the vibrant and welcoming lifestyle we all enjoy here, and I already can’t wait for our next big gathering!
